Anyone suffering from racism at work is going to need some help. Trade Unions are best placed to take on employers who are guilty of direct or indirect discrimination, or who allow some staff to make others' lives a misery.
If you are suffering race discrimination at work:
1. contact your union rep or shop steward
OR
2. contact your local union officer responsible for equality matters, the equality officer at your union's head office or a member of the union's race relations committee (different unions will have different structures).
AND
3. call the TUC know your rights line 0870 600 4 882 to get a copy of Racism at Work - a crime in anyone's language which gives more advice on your rights. This line also has other leaflets on related issues such as dealing with bullying.
The TUC is committed to tackling racism in all its forms and opposes fascist organisations. The TUC also challenges the scapegoating of innocent asylum-seekers. We are committed to tackling the social deprivation and poverty which far-right organisations exploit to increase racial hatred. We want people from all communities and backgrounds to join together and campaign for a better deal in our most deprived neighbourhoods.
Together with the TUC, the Southend Trades Union Council is working to make sure people from all walks of life join with us in celebrating the racial and cultural diversity in Britain today.
